Abstract:All birth records for women born in Norway since 1967 were linked to birth during 1981-94 thereby forming 105,104 mother-offspring units. The main conclusion is that mothers weighing less than 2000g at birth have a higher risk of losing their own babies. Babies who are small relative to their mother's birth weight are at increased risk of mortality.

Discussion:This is one of the studies suggesting that the human reproductive potential is to a great extent determined in fetal life. See entry 0105
