Abstract:This study used the data from a total of 4,584 diabetic children born after 1973 and diagnosed from 1978 to 1992. For each child with insulin dependent diabetes, three control children were randomly selected from among all infants born in the same year and at the same hospital as the proband. Small for gestational age babies had a lower risk of becoming insulin dependent diabetics.
